Hi Nori,
While you've got easy access to your PTO gear box, there are a few
things you might want to consider.
1. adding a gear oil plug on the "new" top. The gear oil plugs are
drilled for filling when the output shaft is pointing down, not up
like in a papercrete mixer. Carefully drilling a hole for a new plug
on the bottom side will allow you to top off the gear oil for the new
upside-down orientation.
2. Draining gear oil and packing it with grease instead. PTO gear
boxes are designed to lubricate gears and bearings in the normal
orientation, leaving them thirsty when upside down. Packed grease
will overcome this gravity issue.
3. add an extra seal around your upward-facing output shaft, to
prevent water from getting into your gear box. A captured, tightly
fitting delrin washer would do the trick.
Best,
Eric
