I've just recently found out about papercrete and i've been reading
everything I can find on it. I've ordered a book but it hasn't come
yet. I live on a farm and raise a variety of livestock and my
daughter and I (she's 17)want to build a small chicken shelter out of
papercrete in a dome shape that will be decorated to look like a
rooster on the outside (a head on top, tail of some sort coming out
back), and nesting boxes built into the walls. I'd say it's going to
be about 4.5 feet tall and similarly wide, again, dome shaped. I have
a couple of questions if anyone could help:
1. If we don't want the papercrete to sit directly on the soil, what
can we have as a base for it to sit on? What if we have it on gravel
or some kind of crushed rock?
2. Can you suggest what we might use as the frame of the dome, which
will then be covered with papercrete?
3. How can we weather proof it? What kind of sealer should we use?
Can we use exterior house paint?
4. Do we need to use chicken wire or hardware cloth under the PC to
give it structural integrity?
My daughter has always wanted a yurt, now she's thinking she'd like
to live in a papercrete dome house, so our chick digs might just be
the start of a whole new world! I'm also picturing goat shelters,
raised garden beds, art sculptures, etc. Wow, my mind is reeling.
cheers,
