Well, like Eric just said, if you're doing masonry work, you probably don't want agricultural lime, since it doesn't have the right properties to harden up. It's just crushed stone. Hydrated lime is what's used in mortars, plaster, whitewash, etc. That's what I'd be looking for (at least for things pertaining to this discussion list, I might need some AG lime to stabilize my driveway after all the rain we've had recently...)

   Greg - get into the local yellow pages and call landscapers, especially small contractors. Ask where they buy lime.  You might find it in Gardening instead of the building supplies area.

I don't know about your area, but the big box stores here in Kansas don't appear to stock lime, only premixed things. You can get portland, concrete mix, or bagged mortar mix (which contains some lime), but I have yet to see a bag of pure lime. I haven't looked extensively, but so far I haven't found it at any at the regular hardware type places I go.
