Re: [papercreters] Re: Mold

Chlorine will not last long when exposed to uv.  The bleach you buy from the grocery store is 6% when bottled, by the time you take it home it is already down to 3% actual chlorine.  The same with swimming pool chlorine.  There are two different types; shock and stabilized chlorine, stabilized chlorine has cynuric acid added to prolong the life of the chlorine.  But it still breaks down in sunlight.

You know thinking about it, we on city water supply may have an advantage over well or lake water, due to the CLORENE in our water, I also believe bleach is CLORENE BLEACH. Maybe city water is better than I thought to make PC from. Just food for thought.

I think the chlorine would evaporate fairly quickly after damaging your
paper fibers, and be ineffective against mold. Soak a piece of paper in
bleach overnight and see what happens. Borates work well, like boric acid or
borax laundry additive (Three Elephants, Twenty Mule Team, etc.), and are
 not expensive.
