Re: [papercreters] Re:

has anyone tried adding a waterproofing agent such as Sylasec to papercrete?

somewhere i found out that if you add it to cement regular cement, it makes it waterproof?

otherwise that particular  product seems designed to make a waterproof concrete paint

by mixing it with portland. i haven't had a chance to test it yet but wonder if anyone else has?

i am trying to get my head around the idea of where permeability is 'useful' and how to apply that-

as in traditional hogan roof ,which  i understand, uses layers of different clays, using the varying

water absorption properties as an advantage...i am looking at a ferrocement shell with papercrete render

but whether it would be best on the inside or the outside is the question?

[papercreters] Re: papercreting a water tote

Bob M tells it right...PC does not hold water directly.

but I assume you mean something OVER/covering the water 'tote' itself?

the plastic drum tote needs to be insulated?..then you could papercrete plaster the entire exterior (or 'spray'crete it) BUT not cover the bottom of it (while empty)  if it needed some level of support off the ground you might consider a shallow trough, fill with some perlite + sand.

Thanks for the hacked notice. I am in the Cincinnati area and fixin' to build a stand for a totes container for collecting water to water the garden next year. I need to look into the specs for determining if papercrete is a good option to hold up a basically 4 foot cube that can weigh about 2500 lbs when full. Anybody with thoughts/experience?

Hello Ruth
My name is Murry Holley . I have a project going on in San Marcos Tx. I would be happy to discuss some of the problems I have been through if you like.

I think you should contact Barry Fuller. I do not think you will find anyone more knowledgeable and he is in Arizona. He does charge a fee for consulting. He was a great help in my research phase. He builds Tow mixers for sale. His website is papercrete, fibercrete, fibrous concrete - Living in Paper

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Ruth....I am shocked so many people did NOT understand my announcement of retiring my personal BOOKSTORE ONLINE..nothing to do with all the experts closing down anything,  or closing this group etc.

While I can do nothing about comprehension of what I wrote,  I MAY have a simple website soon  that will have  all the papercrete/adobe/cob/Rub-RSlate/Paracrete/etc  CDs and booklets available and online.

It will be ready to view soon.

Ruth I emailed you directly with several  pieces of information on rub-r-slate, making it, using it, my results..and I have not heard back from you. So I am not sure if you come online often.

Re: [papercreters] Re: Pumping Papercrete

I suggest you look into a diaphragm mud pump.

They have a Briggs and Stratton type motor turning, through a built in reduction gearbox, a large crank that cycles a connecting rod up and down.

The bottom of the connecting rod is fixed to the center of an approx. 20" diameter reinforced rubber sheet diaphragm.

The pumping chamber is on the bottom side of the diaphragm and has an inlet and an outlet each running through flapping rubber one-way valves so that when the rod pulls up on the diaphragm it will suck in through the suction valve and when the rod pushes down on the diaphragm it will expell through the outlet valve.

It will pump sticks, leaves, sand, gravel, mud, and any other kind of debris that happens to be small enough to fit through the inlet hose strainer.

I have no doubt it will pump papercrete without hesitation.

We rented them from the local construction equipment rental company.

If the pump is rated at 6' head, and you are attempting 10' you are headed for failure even if its pure water.

if you laid the out pipe on the ground does the mix make it thru? You might need to rent a bucket lift.

Hope it helps.

[papercreters] Pumping papercrete

You can pump papercrete with a peristaltic pump made for concrete. They are fairly inexpensive to build yourself. Here is a brief video of mine. The one in this video cost me about $2500 to build and I sell these for $5500 to the local concrete guys. The ones from Monolithic cost about $10k and have more features than mine. There is also a Benron pump for $8500 that will work as well. The benron pumps are nice and have feed control at the gun too.

A centrifugal pump, like your Honda trash pump can not move papercrete. The slurry is too viscous and will form air pockets. Pumping must be done with a positive displacement pump,

[papercreters] Pumping Papercrete

Hello this is Murry in San Marcos TX

Does anyone have experience with pumping papercrete.

I have a 3" Honda Trash pump but have been unable to get it to pump the mix.

The mix is about 100 pounds paper, 10 gal sand, 4 gal clay and 2 sacks of cement and about 100 gal of water in a 160 gal tank.

Any suggestion is most appreciated

Thanks

Hi all...now that I am 'officially' retiredI am going to keep sharing great info on alternative building for free.

Today I wanted to share the write up Judith Williams did several years ago...she has some youtube videos on her  papercrete building you can look up.

I could FILL this post with all the words..but will ATTACH her document .... if you can't access it, or yahoo does not upload it..PLEASE just email me, and I am glad to send it to you as a PDF.

I DO NOT keep, sell, rent anyone's email addy and NEVER have in 20 years online. So You get nothing further from me unless you ASK.

Re: [papercreters] Re: Retiring Papercrete.com after 20 years

Hi Charmaine,

Tried to click and find prices or some of the links are now blank.

After the fire all hopes of building has gone bye bye but your files look doable.

Sent to hubs but he doesn't have much time to read.

So many things look fascinating.
The Rub and Buff flooring and even roof tiles I love.

Now for the "Biggy" how much would the whole package cost? No time to decide, nor do we have much construction in the wilderness going on.

So would have to drive and stay 6 hours away as only 5000 live in 3,814,000 acres and most ranchers throw old fence posts in a pile and they stay there for life.

Thanks

The email went to Tom's not your email.
