I found that layers like you propose have a tendency to delaminate. Keeping the lower layers wet before applying other layers helps some, as will leaving a rough surface, not troweled smooth. Spraying on to lower layers seems to work better, but requires an air compressor and sprayer. The sprayer is cheap and easy if you make it yourself, but the compressor not so much.

A slip form, as simple as a piece of plywood wired into place, will let you pour the wall against that wire and will give you a nice monolithic end product. I have also poured between two wire layers with good results, though 4" is thin enough that you may have difficulty getting good fill without air voids. With slip forms you want each layer to drain well before adding another.
