Re: [papercreters] Reciprocal Roofs- 16 sided house

Greetings,

Since when is a framed house cheaper than a papercrete or fidobe home?
Rice hulls also attract bugs, big time. I have friends that use them in
the garden, and the bugs just love to get into the piles. Since our
home has to be pesticide free, anything organic that can feed critters
is not a good idea.

Mastic?????? Never would be allowed in my home. That stuff is toxic in
the extreme. I want to live there, not die.

If I had access to lots of cedar trees, I would consider cordwood, what
you are calling firewood home. I have friends that are planning on
doing just that, but they need to clear a cedar patch to put the house
in, so it makes sense for them.

I am in the Gulf Coast region, but rice is not grown everywhere. Our
soil is too acid for it. I am in the piney woods area. Oh, and my
papercrete mixer was much less than $400 to build.

Actually, papercrete and fidobe can be done by inexperienced help, such
as children and volunteers. Since there is no financing involved, there
is no rush, so it takes what it takes. Using the waste stream to build
is a long term gain for all of us. Since I work on my farm, full time,
the time to build is just part of my life, no cost. The labor helps
keep me healthy and is much better than working out at the gym.
Actually, several friends are planning on dropping their gym memberships
and working at my place instead. So, the labor aspect is a positive.

Just turn the thinking around, remember Tom Sawyer, and get the project
done.

Bright Blessings,
