I've known several cobbers who had tools stolen too. one couple stayed on their house site a 1/4 mile from the tool trailer which was broken into, stuff stolen,so then they stayed in the trailer and someone went to the work site and took other stuff.. and this was a woody weedy steep area. they had mean neighbors too and learned to go make friends right away.
on some of the home build TV shows you see the pros get ripped off...lowlifes came and took whole kitchen cabinets, fixtures, tools etc.. broke right in.
it is amazing how much this happens...next to laptops and cell phones, ipods stolen at airports this is worse...those are insured.
during my auto accident my lap top was destroyed, it took me 2 years to chose a gorgeous new Mac pro... less than 30 days of getting it my house was burglarized and it was stolen with 40 years of jewelery and special items not replaceable.. at least I was insured...unlike the tool problem, bet there isn't insurance for that...there is no profit in any insurance agency offering job site insurance...they'd lose their shirts.
