Hello Everyone,
My name is Dale Weber, and i joined your group a while back since i'm looking for an alternative method to build a house. I moved to the Philippines in Dec. of 2010 from Cincinnati and don't have to worry about building codes, or some inspector looking over my shoulder. The thing they worry about least here is a septic system. I've also done building in the States so i'm familiar with a lot of things. I basically can do anything i want here.
I like the idea of PC for a project here and have been looking at your info from anything posted. I like Judith's blog. There is a limited amount of materials to work with here, including newspaper. This is a poor country and nothing is wasted. Most houses are simple Bamboo and Nipa or any combination of Concrete, bad quality hollow blocks(concrete blocks), rebar, tin, limited lumber, bad plywood, cement board, and anything else you can scrounge together. No shortage of Nipa and Bamboo here so that is a standard material and very cheap. A traditional Bamboo and Nipa roof house is very nice. A bamboo strip floor is easy to make and very durable. Also easy to clean.
I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone and hopefully can contribute some info also. I have my own hollow block machine and dies for 2 sizes of blocks. I plan to do some experiments with that in the future. Blocks here are only used for wall filler and are basically compressed sand with a little cement added.
Best Regards,
Dale Weber
