[papercreters] Re: Question for the group

Bob,

If the window size is reasonably sized, the easiest technique may be to not frame the window as the wall is built.

It is an extremely simple matter to build a solid wall without any window opening. After the wall is completely dry, get out your chainsaw, or maybe a reciprocating saw with an extremely long blade, and cut out the window opening. Don't hesitate to rough cut the opening a little small and then gradually cut the opening larger to get a perfect size. Then place your window buck into this perfectly sized opening.

Of course... this technique makes a few assumptions. Your cured/dried papercrete mix needs to be something that is practical to cut with a chainsaw. Some papercrete mixes will destroy a chainsaw chain. It all depends on how much sand and stuff is in the mix.

You also might be able to use a circular saw with a wood or with a masonry blade. Use whatever makes sense for your papercrete mix. You'll probably need to cut the opening from both sides of the wall. Pre-drilling the corners of the opening (assuming rectangular window) would be needed to place the cuts correctly to match the inside and the outside of the wall.

Of course... if the window or door opening is too large, this technique becomes impractical.
