[papercreters] Papercreters First Anniversary

Today, February 7, 2008 is the First Anniversary of the founding of
Papercreters.

Happy Anniversary everyone!!!

365 days. That's how long ago frustration was set in. That's when
one numbskull didn't know any better and decided to take the plunge.
12 months. That's the time that has passed since this group was
created. One year ago we got so angry and sick of spam that we
decided to make a change for the better.

13 months ago many of us were so frustrated we were pulling our hair
out. Attempts to start a papercrete group had been made, but they
were either abandoned or so full of spam that nobody wanted to use
them. The few posters that we had in the old groups would spend more
time complaining about the spam than actually exchanging information
about papercrete. We sure have come a long way in a year.

Back when this group was begun, a couple of hundred members and 50
spam free messages per month would have been considered an
overwhelming success.

What a year it has turned out to be. Each and every one of you have
been part of what we have now.

5224 Messages have been posted.
1009 Current Members
Hundreds of interesting photos.
Documents and files have been uploaded.
7 Uncompensated Volunteer moderators have stepped forward to help
keep everything spam free. (Thank You Moderators! Papercreters
would not be what it is today without you!)

That wasn't enough to satisfy us.

A read-only mirror group on Google Groups was created.
A read-only mirror on Blogspot was created.
These mirror groups give many people a different way to view our
information. They also help publicize our group.

A special YouTube group was created to show all our papercrete
related videos.

A database to store papercrete recipes and testing data has been
initiated.

It still wasn't enough. People are still thristy for more.

We have made inroads and begun a movement to get papercrete adopted
into the International Building Code. That effort may not be moving
as fast as many would like, but it is not going away either. It's
just lacking an inspirational leader to step forward and say, "We
have to make this happen. I'm going to push everyone. I'm going to
make a difference. Waiting for others to do it means big
corporations will do it their way and squeeze out the little guy.
That's unacceptable. I can't do alone, and I may not know
everything, but I can do my part. Others have done a great deal,
it's time for me to step up and make a contribution."

All the websites, all the work, all the pictures... they mean nothing
without people.

Each and every one of you ARE PAPERCRETERS. Without people that want
to learn and share information it's all pointless.

I am privileged to have had the opportunity to exchange information
with so many of you. New people are joining daily.

It's been a great year everyone.

Thank You.

Let's make Year 2 even better!

Post your comments. Ask your questions. It's good to have several
people that regularly stir things up and get people discussing
papercrete. Do you have a crazy papercrete idea? Tell us about it!
