[papercreters] Re: Gabion Tires?

For those that are considering a Gabion foundation, have you considered
used tires as your Gabions?

Most of the tire applications I've seen used rammed earth inside
tires. Sometimes you'll see someone filling them with rock. If you
fill the the tires with rock, I don't see why you couldn't call them
tire gabions. Heck I bet tires are actually stronger than most wire
Gabion cages.

You'll still want to tie the tires together to make them into one big
mass. Wire and rebar are the ideal candidates.

Getting an inspector to approve the idea is another story.

Filling tires with rock sounds a whole lot easier than ramming them
with earth.
