Yeah, that's them, beach ball sized or better and blowing across the landscape. Actually a Russian Thistle that was imported by some short sighted person as cattle feed (like Johnson Grass across the South). They don't make good cattle feed except when really young, and will only grow on disturbed dirt. You don't find them growing out in the desert, only where people live.

They do have seed pods when they first start tumbling, but they all fall off pretty soon. I don't expect any sprouting problems.
