[papercreters] Volunteer Wanted: Papercrete Recipe Testing Corrdinator

Hey everyone.   Here is another volunteer opportunity.  For those of us that like this sort of thing, this might be one of the most fun positions within our developing Papercreters organizational structure.  It's a chance to be creative and accomplish a lot.  If I didn't have so much on my plate, this is the position I would jump all over given this chance.  Sadly I can't keep up with everything and do the kind of quality work this position deserves. 

 

Speak up quickly.  We might have several people rushing to jump on this one.  I'm sure we'll also have several people interested in helping whoever chooses to lead us in this effort.

 

 

Papercrete Recipe Home Testing Coordinator

This volunteer will lead our effort to develop a series structural material tests that everyone who works with papercrete can perform on samples that they create at home or on their job site.  The needed testing equipment will focus on using common everyday items we all have laying around.  The procedures should be simple enough that most anyone can perform most of the tests.  This testing program is not intending to produce fancy official documents.  The expectations are to generate some good approximate numbers for reference.  Highly precise calibrated results are not practical using this technique.  We should be able to learn a lot more about our favorite material and be able to have one person's results confirmed by another volunteer tester.  We will use this informal testing as a guide to determine what makes sense to pursue for inclusion in a Papercrete Building Code.  Our informal testing will be critical in narrowing down the possibilities and helping us make decisions about what makes the most sense to spend extra money on official testing in professional labs. 

 

This ongoing position won't be limited to the Code project.  Every member of papercreters should be interested in constantly improving and learning even after papercrete is part of the building code. 

 

Once we have designed a series of standard home tests and test equipment we can easily make ourselves, this volunteer will help coordinate our testing efforts with our Papercreters membership.  They will work closely with AJ Welmers, our Recipe Researcher, to see that all the data is collected and input into our database for everyone to refer to.  This volunteer will also be a primary contact person for members that are interested in performing some testing.  They will advise members as needed in helping them setup their own home testing system.  This may be one of the most interesting positions on our Code Team.  If you enjoyed high school chemistry lab or physics lab, you'll appreciate what we are trying to accomplish.  If science is your thing, you'll enjoy this.
