RE: [papercreters] My first PC block

There was a thread awhile back about using a pressure washer to shred the paper and emulsify it.  Check the archives but I’m thinking that a couple of folks here use a pressure washer with a rotating head and it works really well.  I think I’d probably use a 30 gallon trash can or 50 gallon drum to do it in.  5 gallon bucket + pressure washer = man made from paper-mâché. Subject: [papercreters] My first PC block

Ok I tried the 5gal bucket recipe today. I used the entire contents of
my office paper shredder and some torn up paper. I could not find
anything on blades so I made one out of a piece of 3/8" rebar and a
piece of flat-bar 1/2" x about 6" long. I just put a sharp edge on
the flat-bar with a grinder...very sharp. Anyway I used a 1/2' drill
and I'm not sure I got the mix right.

Perhaps I did not mix it long enough but are you supposed to be able
to see some of the paper still? I don't think so right? My drill is
plenty powerful perhaps it was the blade size? is there a general size
others use for a 5 gal bucket? I would like to get the 5gal bucket
method down so I can use it for experimenting with mixes.

I made one block the size of a standard 4x8x16" concrete block because
I want to compare weight. We have had weather in the 100's for several
weeks now that I try the PC todays high was 94..bummer I'm gonna wait
a couple of days and see what happens. I promise once I get a bit more
organized in this effort I will post pictures..
p.s. I was thinking for the experimental stage it might be worth it to
just buy a couple of bags of insulation rather than try to deal with a
blade configuration that will allow me not to have to sit there and
rip up paper.
Thanks for any comments.
