RE: [papercreters] Papercreting Grannies in WV

I am so impressed with your work!  I’ve never done papercrete but I do work with cement and know how time consuming and heavy the work can be.  You have done a great job and I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks for sharing,

Aline

Today we awoke to find an invitation to this group. We are two
Grandmothers, Carrie & Elisia Ross-Stone, we have our own online
business and we are building a house out of recycled materials --
primarily papercrete!

We have a little website devoted to our project at
www.builtfromtrash.com which has not been updated for many months as
we are heavily into the building season.

We are seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel" and are trying to
get our (already 3 year) project mostly finished before winter.

We made a mixer using a drill press and food processor blade and added
clay and Portland Cement to the paper slurry in a cement mixer.

We are pouring the slurry, bucket-by-bucket into slip forms to create
walls and ceilings.

Not the most efficient method but it is the best we could do with what
we had and it is working!

Our foundation is packed tires and we are using recycled windows (and
some seconds).

At the center of our building project is a 12X50 mobile home we got
for free.

After the house is finished it will be 24X50 as each papercrete
"addition" is six feet wide and 50 feet long!

We are opening up the sides of the trailer as the walls and ceilings
are closed in.

Hard to imagine? Hope you will look at the website.

Our goal is to make a great and super efficient house for free or next
to nothing and then teach other people (especially those who do not
think they will ever own a home) how to do it themselves.

We are making a video, doing the website (will be vastly improved over
time), and eventually hope to teach others how to do what we are doing
-- only better!

We are very excited to find this group and are looking forward to
hearing about your projects and sharing and getting ideas!

Carrie & Elisia
