If it's been done right the pipe should be ground to the switch box. If the wires short out to the pipe it will trip the breaker stopping the flow of current, if the wires shorting in the first place have not tripped the breaker already. As for the metal pipe it's hard to get enough heat from the wires to start a fire if they have been hooked up properly. One point of useing metal pipe in the first place is if the wires get hot enough to burn off the insulation to start a fire. The wires will short back to ground, trip the breaker stopping the current /heat in turn stopping a fire in the first place. Ok lol befor you TEC's out there start raggen I told this to her this way to keep it simple.
