[papercreters] Re: Brick Press

Is there a need for a consistent block? I'm thinking apply the plunger to the end of the block, so wall thickness and block height are consistent, but block length varies a little. Much quicker, no need to worry about measurement.

It should also be possible to press several blocks in series, so one pressing yields a row of blocks. The construction can be quite simple, if you have basic fab skills. Make a hollow rectangular tube slit down 2 opposite corners, add quick clamps. Fill with alternating buckets of pulp & wood blocks. Press. Pressing mechanisms can be very basic.

AIUI the big plus of blocks is that they suit transporting the product somewhere, hence their widespread use. But pouring a wall in situ's less work, or spraying one. OTOH compressed paper is a good bit stronger, its instantly stable, and dries far faster.

PS my first blocks were pressed right away, no predraining.
