The belt I have is toothed on the inside, but I don't have a gear. What I do have is a friend with a 4 step pulley that will fit, and I'm about to go pick it up as soon as I finish lunch. :)
In the meantime I tried using some epoxy putty to change the flat pulley into a V slot. It worked somewhat, but when I got it loaded it started slipping. Then the blades started slipping, indicating that the 5/16 hard bolt is not sufficient for a setscrew without a flat on the shaft. I'm really tempted to just weld them to the shaft, but may try a through bolt first.
The thing looks so great spinning without paper or water, it has to work with the right combination of pulleys after I solve the blade issue. I may just put the motor back on the old drum mixer and at least get some pc done. I'm getting tired of diddling with this design and have only stuck to it because of Charmaine's testimony that Mike's could make a drum of pc in 2 minutes flat. That would be sweet. I'd be ecstatic with five minutes turnaround.
The great thing about a v-belt is that while it's smooth on one side, it's "ribbed" with teeth on the other. Have you considered putting a toothed gear on that shaft & reversing the v-belt so it will grip the "teeth"? That would resolve the belt slippage issue. ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
