RE: [papercreters] Padobe

Thanks so much Spaceman. I read through the articles you recommended and am now seriously considering the rubble trench. I used one on my last project and was very happy with it, however the bldg inspector was not. What I will do this time is a hybrid as is desribed in the Down to Earth article. I am planning a post and beam so will put concrete footers under the beams and rubble trench for the rest of it. My big concern has been money. Well yesterday I finished with the digging guy and it was raining so I thought I'd go to the post office. Haven't been there in a while. As I was driving I thought "Wouldn't it be nice if I got some money in the mail." Like in that movie "The Secret". I couldn't believe what I found. There among the bills and demands for money were 2 very unexpected checks! So now I have a little more flexibility with how I do the foundation ........and you folks coming for the gathering will eat! Yesterday after I had the digging done and saw the volume that would need to be filled I felt a bit downhearted but now I'm very excited to get going on it. Must go this morning to get the brakes fixed on the truck I have been borrowing. I stopped to unlock the gate and when I went forward there was a terrible screeching sound. So there goes the morning. Thursday I have cataract surgery, Friday a follow up. Looks like I will be working at night and all weekend. Lex Terry is coming on Monday to help so I'm not worried. I'll be ready for attendees to arrive on Thursday of next week. If anyone wants to come early just come along.

Sincerely, Judith

90% rock sounds like a ready made rubble trench foundation. Might be worth looking into...

Been out at the site all day. Had the guy come to dig the foundation.
What a job! The ground is 90% rocks, digging by bobcat done, now the shoveling starts. I got the trenches cleared of rocks but am thinking of how much concrete needs to be mixed in a rented mixer or the usual way in the wheelbarrow. Not sure the padobe will work out. The stuff I poured yesterday is still very wet.  took the form off and some corners fell off, even after 24 hrs. I'm thinking it's just too much to try something so new with the prospect that it will bomb. I love my idea for the slip forming and have the forms all worked out and half built. So may go with my original papercete mix and enjoy the whole process. I am so tired tonight I am not even human, but tomorrow is another day with entirely new promises. Will keep you posted.
Sincerely, Judith
