Re: [papercreters] Re: PC Set times - was - Slurry Stink

I have tried it both ways last and first I seem to get a stronger and better covered batch, mixing the cement and lime in first. But I'm also using a roller powered mixer so the blade speed is slower. In the first ever batch of PC I did which was cactus juice and paper only, I left it in the mixer over a weekend because I had to go out of town right after I had mixed it. That monday I fired it up added some water and it mixed fined but again I had not started using cement or lime in the mix yet. It did have a grand smell to it as I remember sort of like bad eggs. There are as many mix types as there are styles in this group the best thing is, start with small batches. See what you can get away with as to how long before it sets up, how strong do you need it to be, how are you going to use it things like that. The ones of us here who have been doing this for a while have all went this path till we got what works for us.

I have left mix in the mixer for several days, but without the cement. I always add that last, just before use.

Well I use lime, cement and cactus juice in my mix. It seems to stop bugs, mold and help make it stronger. As for how long can you wait to use it in it's finshed form, I have had a mix in the mixer as much as 5 hours before I got all out. I have not seen any problems. Now I have not cleaned out the mixer properly a few times and by the next day the pc even if it was sitting in water did not form or stick well in use.

In my experience, a few hours. Never tried to measure it exactly.
