Re: [papercreters] I dont want to complaine!

Actually, this IS a papercrete group, and we should stay on that subject. If you look at the group page, the topic of discussion is pretty well defined.

"We discuss various ingredients included in papercrete mixes, construction of papercrete mixers, and their use and application. Water proofing strategies utilizing stucco, ferrocement, elastomerics, clapboards, shingles, and various other techniques are common topics. Integrating papercrete into construction and building practices as it pertains to concrete and other foundation types, framing, post and beam, electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning), roofing, windows, and other aspects of construction are all important factors open to discussion. IBC (International Building Code), local codes, inspections, and related topics are common. Since papercrete architecture includes nearly all architectural styles we have fun discussing that as well."

The founder of the group and the moderators do allow some flexibility of subjects if the discussion can somehow be related to the main topic. Slurry Guy (founder) talked with the moderators a lot, both expressing his concept of the group and getting input. The moderators seem to be of a like mind, though some of them border on fanatical about spam. That's why new members stay moderated until we get to know them.

Basically, if it doesn't relate to papercrete in some way, there is another group that probably discusses it, but we don't here. After three years (our 3rd anniversary was Sunday) and over 9,200 messages in the archives, we still haven't run out of things to discuss about papercrete, including humorous anecdotes. Most papercreters will admit at least to getting a face full of slurry, even better with an open mouth. Papercrete is really sweet, but it's not good to eat!

For some reason the yahooligans quit sending me posts, and I was busy, so several days went by before I noticed and finally visited the group page, and read messages there that had not been sent to me. The discussion about a solar cooker was going on during that time, and I tried to post a message or two but they never showed up AFAIK. Then today I finally started getting messages from the group again, and it looks like that discussion died out on its own anyway. I don't know if the other moderators were busy or found it to be interesting (I did too, but then I belonged to a solar cooking group for a while - where it would have been more appropriate).

As Perry said, stick around and see if the group keeps your interest with papercrete. When it gets slow here I do something else, like mix some papercrete or go take some pictures. Soon enough someone will post something interesting and on topic. For instance, it has been getting up into the 60's here lately. I may take a few days off from my winter bike build to mix a few barrels of papercrete, to cover and seal the top pent on the papercrete dome I'm living in. Then I can finally take down the suspended parachute inside and get the full papercrete dome feeling, and maybe finally make the sleeping loft. Around here it goes from cold, to cold and windy, to hot and windy, to really hot between now and April, but maybe I'll get a few warm days with less than gale force winds to sling some slurry on the next frame.

i am new here and i dont want to complaine but i got some e-mail saying that this was a papper crete group and that we should stay on that subject. well i now i am not wording it exactly the way it was worded sorry. But it is my thought that a group of people talking and exchangeing ideas should be able to discuss some varriations of the toppic. otherwise this discussion group will run out of conversation and ideas very fast. It seems to me any discussion on renwable energys and recycling and such should be discussed but if i am wrong i am sorry i will look for a differnt group to find ideas and information.
