[papercreters] Re: Nasa technology paint additive

actually its quite old and cheap if you dont buy the scam. it has been using them for decades
what they are selling is called microspheres or micro ballons they are glass phenolic(high dollar stuff) or ceramic speres used as a non asorbing filler for resins/gel coats in the marine industry. as its a manufactured product its NOT green or environmentally friendly ...
BUT there is something else that is a waste product that you can use and is cheaper cenosphere http://www.ashtechindia.com/cenosphere.htm it is a coal power plant by product. spheres that are formed unlike microspheres/ballons they are not only silica but other metals and they are not white like pure microballons. bad for mixing with white or color sensitive coatings
Chemical Properties
Silica 55% - 65%
Alumina 25% - 35%
Iron Oxide 1% - 5%
Titania 0.5% - 1.5%

the down side of the speres (of any type) they bulk it up some make SOME R-value too many variables to be certain of the R value. but its more brittle anyway if you want a real green product try that

bottom line what gives more 'heat reflection' ceramic(silica) or 25.5%-36.5% aluminum and titanium microspheres? and
