Re: [papercreters] Experience in GA/SC

Hi
Ed Bishop from Spartanburg,SC. I visited the Holy Cross Church in Sumter and the old plantation across the street.Spoke to the park ranger now living in one of the old quarters. All of these structures were built of rammed earth and are still in use today,The construction dates start in 1848 for the plantation and the church was built in 1852. Both are historical sites. The ranger expressed the fact that in the summer his home was "Quite comfortable but in the winter seemed like an ice box." I too have been researching the use of papercrete or rammed earth. The one in fulence that these structures do not have is the incorporation of solar heating into there design. The ranger was unable to answer as to how much he believed solar would reduce his heating bill for the winter season.....please e mail me----Ed

Does anyone here have any personal experience with rammed earth, strawbale, papercrete or compressed earth blocks in either Georgia or South Carolina?

I am thinking about buying property in either Georgia or South Carolina so I can start a CSA farm, and I may be interested in setting up an eco-village. I need to learn as much as I can about using ecologically sustainable building technologies before I decide to move.
