Hiya folks!
New to the group. My wife and I are preparing to purchase 9 acres in
chilly Vermont, and building a house. The land is extremely rocky and
one of my big interests is in slipform stone building. I'm thinking
about building a double-faced slipform stone wall. The outer stone
wall would be for aesthetics (and because the rock is free and
plentiful) while the inner stone wall will provide our thermal mass.
It's pretty common practice lately to use beadboard inside double (or
even single) slipform masonry walls, but the freaking beadboard is
much expensive! Does it make any sense at all to build two slipform
stone masonry walls with the flat sides facing each other, then pour
papercrete in between them as insulation? Is it even conceivable that
this could save me time, money, or effort, or am I insane? Any
thoughts regarding R-value, recipes, and medications will be considered.
Thanks!
