[papercreters] Bonding between layers of plaster

This in response to Tom Currys' inquiry-The general rule in masonry
stucco application is to apply the second coat within 72 hours or
after 7 days. Perhaps this is due to the fact that there are windows
in the set characteristics of portland at 4 days and 7 days (I'm not
at all sure how this might apply to papercrete- the most obviuos
problem would be freezing before set - papercrete if not properly
filled (sand, perlite etc.)shrinks. It will shrink onto an outside
curve, and away from an inside curve. Shrinkage will break the bond
with the previous coat if that coat has no integrity (not enough
portland)or if the undercoat drinks all the water from the
topcoat(either the top coat is to dry, or if one pushs to hard on the
trowal (hammering the plaster coat)which drives the water out the
backside- generally one should just lay the plaster up and not hammer
the coat as in hard plaster- if you want a tough hammered surface you
can use just 1/4 of the normal level of fiber - Still, since I
switched to the filled formulas(6 months ago) I have not had any
problems ! Hope others will chime in with their experiances- Clyde
