Sorry, that was a little short. Let me expand on that.
Take the highs from all the days of the year, and average them. Take the
lows for all the days of the year and average them. Then average those
two numbers and you get the average temperature for the year. Get down
into the earth and the temperature will be at that temperature,
approximately. The depth needed to reach that average is cited by
different authorities as being below five feet, below ten feet, etc.
Since my floor will be at 15' below grade I seem to be deep enough no
matter which authority you choose to accept.
