The people using ferrocement say that if you leave your galvanized wire/mesh sitting out in the weather for a while then the zinc oxidizes and that coating prevents the reaction between the cement and the zinc.
I used weathered galvanized stucco mesh as one side of slip forms for papercrete. After several years there is no visible reaction. YMMV

it is my understanding that 'galvanic currents' between the galv and Something in the portland cement result in the
structure inevitably being weakened over time. not good.
