RE: [papercreters] Vigas on Black Friday

Wow. I enjoyed the pics of the vigas and Shadow the pup. The first pic of shadow in the jemez looked like  astuffed dog. How big is your house ,Judith?

We're coming along with our casita too and hope to have it livable by summer. It's 550 sq. ft. with a 200 sq. ft. porch and outdoor patio outside Madrid...We got stopped by the weather today. I want to install the wood, box stove, patio panel wall, and paint the inside of the adobe section with this milk paint I just bought. It appears to take less babying and work than lime plaster. It was sure pricey. It should apply itself! We still have the earthen floor to pour this summer and some exterior stuccoing. I want to enhance our solar system with another panel and 2 new batteries as well as put in a small propane stove and fridge.

Soon we'll start building our 500 sq. ft. cabin in OK and experiment with papercrete for interior walls. Our plan is to move into both our OWNER BUILT homes and sell or rent out the 4000 sq. ft. of STRANGER BUILT stuff we're currently living in. This is exciting! Take good care. Photos coming. Right after I bought my land 4 or 5 years ago I had a big load of logs delivered. I've been using them since then. The logs for this building were all peeled withing the last 2 weeks. We got them all secured up there today, evenly spaced apart and they look great. The weather is very cold with snow showers all around us so we only put in a few hours today. The last thing we did was stretch the chicken wire over the vigas. We hope to get started papercreting the roof tomorrow but will have to see how the weather is. We may wake up to several inches of snow on the ground. Spaceman has pictures to post and some video. Of course my camera has a dead battery so I didn't get any pictures.

Sincerely, Judith

This is AWESOME!!!!!

I have a question.  You used the verbiage "dozen trees".  Did you all cut down some trees and prep them by debarking and destemming them?  And were these on-site trees?   What kind of trees?  Pine?  Hardwood of some kind?  I am very curious about this part of it.  It is so... organic, for lack of a better term.  Who needs lumber when you have nice uneven TREES with character!  :D

With a bit of hard work yesterday we managed to move a dozen trees from ground level to the top of Judith's house. Today we'll pin them down with rebar and put on a chicken wire base for the papercrete. If we're lucky we might even mix and dump some pc today.
