Do you mean to mix the red clay in with the papercrete or are you trying to make a slip of the clay?  The red clay I use gets soaked in five gallon buckets first.   I tried to make a slip out of it, but it might have had too much sand.  Funny, it didn't feel like it had too much sand when I was digging the stuff.  (It felt .like it had too much concrete.)
