Re: [papercreters] COMPRESSED BLOCKS- CINVA RAM FERNSLER BUILT

Besides the $20 tuner card you'll need several hours of time. First you have to run the tape and capture it, which takes the length of the tape. Then depending on what program you are using it can take another several hours to burn the DVD. That particular card got pretty bad reviews - poor quality picture and poor quality equipment. It is also not compatible with Media Center Version of XP. If it doesn't say Media Center on the box, it probably won't work with Media Center.

So, though I agree with you in principle, a better quality capture card would be called for, and you should allow for processing time. The capture card I use was closer to $100 and does an excellent job though its software leaves a lot to be desired. It was the cheapest that I could find that would work with Media Center, and neither of my two MC computers came with built in capture/tuner cards. One is a Gateway and the other is HP.

Hi Charmaine:

It is easy enough to convert VCR tapes to DVD , all one need is a tuner card . The media center XP computers came with one. Someone who has one should not charge you very much as you can buy the card for less than 20 bucks.
