If you took an inboard setup you could do it, but why? Marine engines
are expensive and the junkyard is full of old car and truck engines
dirt cheap. The tow mixer seems the cheapest way to go and unless you
are going to build a subdivision or go into mass production of blocks
it is big enough.
If I was going to go into mass production I would have a welder make
me some egg beater like paddles and run them off a surplus diesel
engine running on used vegetable oil. You can use used motor oil if it
is cleaned up but you are only legally allowed to use what you produce
yourself and to buy it is hard if you but less than 9000 gallons a a
time. It might be the local recycler will sell you smaller amounts.
At worst off road diesel is about the same a gasoline, it used to be
much less, and diesel are very efficient. The hot setup would be to
use direct drive electric motors to run the paddles, a giant cake
mixer . I used such a device years ago to mix a latex cement mixture
for hot tar roofs called snowtop, I wish I could find one now.
If you want to get real wild you could run a gasoline engine off
hydrogen produced with wood fired hydrogen generator .
Diesel generators are available at govliquidation.com.
