I used to work for an oil & gas company in Houston.  They had a 'shreading room' in the basement, where all the maps they printed on paper went if they didn't get filed.  There were lots of 'what-if' things done that needed maps.
Anyway, they had about a 10 yard dumpster per month of shreaded maps in bales.  (Typically on high clay content slick paper.)  It would have been great.  Could have used the bales to make a 'straw bale' style house directly!
Ahh, 20-20 hind sight.  We lived in the 'burbs in those days.
