[papercreters] Tufa-lava stone is perfect!!!

In Hawaii, where there is much volcanic aggregate ( tufa ? ) locally
available, it could substitute for some of the sand required in the
mix & it might add some insulating value to a papercrete shelter too -
due to the air entrained in the particles. I wonder if anyone has
heard of any Hawaiian papercrete projects? The warm and windy climate
should dry out panels rather quickly all winter long. Passing the
crushed volcanic gravel though an 1/8th screen might work for
substituting some of the sand? All of the sand?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There are HI built tufa and slab rainwater tanks- due to the lack of
running water to some areas . One slab has a small home on top the
raintank it is so big.

There is MX Steve, an American, living in MX for 20+ years- created
the thinnest strongest domes and arches walls, sculptures and more
with cement and just the local lava stone. it is perfection, and will
not rot or mold, no paper is needed, really, unless you want to play.

You MUST visit his site Flying Concrete by Mexico Steve. I met him
at a ITSA ( thin shell ferrocement conference ) with a lot of DIY
builders and guys who are not doing papercrete- but doing amazing
things with cement and additives.

I am going to send you a one page sheet that shows how steve took a
metal screen door, and sculpted a 1/2" to inch thick covering, and
make an impenetrable door that was till beautiful. let air thru.

Also there is a link to all the ITSA attendees so it will show the
builders in HI you can reach.

IN MX there are thieves who break in thru doors and windows, so most
homes have metal grates over them.. ugly, as Steve said" you are
looking thru prison bars from INside your home" why not make them
beautiful. so he does, and is busy building all the time.

I saw a box of the tufa, many parts are sizes from fine to peas,
bean, and small egg shapes. and he does not do a lot of crushing
unless for thin sculpting. check out his site at:
