Bales of cardboard was RE: [papercreters] Re: tiles

I have been getting my bales of cardboard from behind Walgreens. They always have a lot of them out there. I need someone to help me get it into the truck because it's just a little too heavy for me. I like the bales because they're easy to get and you really get a lot of cardboard. When I used to get newspapers from the New Mexican it was a big deal to load them all into the truck and then make sure they didn't blow out then unload them all. If it's just s tiny bit windy forget it.

I have been soaking the cardboard for anywhere from 1 hour to several days. They mulch up well and make a very nice mix. The combination of using blocks in the slip forms is really great. The walls look so nice and the work goes fast. And I'm using up a lot of old blocks I have around. I have to cut them to 12" width to fit between the forms but that goes pretty fast with the table saw.

Sincerely, Judith

We get our paper from a recycling place in Albuquerque called unicore . It runs around$70.00 for a bail which weighs around1500 pounds. You will need a flat bed trailer to haul it because it is to wide for our one ton duly truck.
Judith W 's card board worked out really nice though if you can find someone to save it for you that is money saved.
So far our project is running us a little over $10.00 per sq. which is dirt cheap. : )

A typical mix will have about 60+ pounds of paper to yield in the range of 15 cubic feet of end product. So, four pounds per cubic foot more or less depending on your mix. For a 64'x4'x1' thick wall somewhere in the range of 1,000 pounds. Close to two tons for that studio, assuming 8' walls and not including the roof, which would take maybe another 1/2 ton.  Keep in mind these are approximate WAG figures, YMMV, etc.

Yep. I don't think I want the rusty look. I'm so glad I found a great paper recycle resource at CNM (a college) where I teach. But I'm clueless as to how much paper I will actually need to build say a 64 foot perimeter 4' high wall or a 250 sq. ft. art studio. Any ideas?????

Sounds like that would work, worth a try. Doris
