[papercreters] Personal Recycle Bin - was- Re: Paper, paper and more paper

Larry,

This doesn't have to be complicated.

I suggest taking the paper you already have and building a nice
storage bin with a waterproof roof. Make this a dropoff bin. Paint
instructions on the side where people can see them.

PUT THE WORD OUT.

Start spreading the word that you are looking for paper, and people
will start filling your bin for you. Tell your neighbors, friends,
and family.

Make up a flier on your computer asking for people to donate their
scrap paper. Explain that you will be recycling it. Explain exactly
the idea type of paper that you want donated. Explain how you want
it sorted. Explain that you do NOT want non-paper trash. Explain
that you only accept clean, dry, paper. (That's to keep out the bird
cage liners and doggy puddle soaked papers.) Put your address and a
little map on the flier. Maybe even put a url to your website so
that people can see exactly what you are doing with the paper.

Photo copy a few of these 8.5x11 fliers to post on bulletin boards.
Local Schools, community centers, and places that tend to have lots
of paper would be good places to post your fliers.

Within a few weeks you'll have trouble working fast enough to keep
your bin from overflowing.

You won't have to pay for the paper, and you won't even have to haul
the paper.

Just be sure you keep your donation area clean and tidy or you'll get
nastygrams from your neighbors.

Post signs on your collection bin giving details exactly what you'll
accept and that putting anything else in your bin will be considered
littering or dumping. Say that you will prosecute violators.
(whether you actually prosecute violators isn't the point. Just
telling people that it might happen will keep most of the other trash
out of your bin.
