The idea with clipping is to just leave the part(s) you are replying to while removing all the extras, especially the spam that yahoo attaches at the bottom and of course all the previous posts that might be attached. It is good to have the reference included so you know exactly what is being discussed.

You see both extremes, those who don't clip at all and those who clip everything so it is hard to tell what they are replying to.

It is also good to modify the subject line when what you are posting is no longer relevant to the original discussion so that searches don't come up with irrelevant posts to wade through. And lets not get started on the ubiquitous discussion of top posting vs bottom posting!

Even with all the "rules" I personally would rather see unclipped hijacking posts than no posts at all  : )
