You seem surprisingly familiar with my area being from Iowa. I do have a well that brings up 108F mineral water.You bring up some good points about sand. I have been using large quantities of sand for these reasons:- strengthen the mix- reduce portland cement - portland issues - (cost, transportation, storage, carbon)- reduce flammability- reduce dry time- reduce costsThe structures I am building are small and the insulation is thick enough at 12" that I don't mind giving up a little R-value.
