[papercreters] How to Pump Papercrete - Sand in Mix

Hi Mikey,

Thanks for your sharing of your papercrete adventures in your posts, blog, and videos -- inspirational!

I always have wanted to visit Truth or Consequences -- anyplace with a name like this has got to be interesting and have interesting edges.  With Virgin Galactic spaceport nearby, and hot springs -- are you luck enough to have a well over  one of the famous T or C hot springs?  And T or C has Elephant Butte Lake State Park nearby.  A lot going on in your corner of New Mexico. Hopefully you'll have a papercrete place for me to sleep by the time I'm next making a pilgrimage out west!

I did want to ask about your mix.  I'm puzzled why you would use so much sand in a mix that is designed as an insulating core between two ferrocement shells.  Looks like you don't need the sand for structural reasons, with FC skins, I would think flame resistance isn't the reason.  Doesn't seem like shrinkage would be an issue since you'll be able to fairly easily get the FC through your outer skins.  Is it to satisfy the code folks?

Would you be so kind as to share your thinking?

Thanks much!

The "forms" are:

You can see a flickr set with the construction of the dome here:

The mix is:

- 60# paper
- 30# sand
- 15# portland
- 5# lime

I am using 50% more water than usual to help the pump move the mix.
