I appreciate the suggestions offered. I thought of adding latex paint to my mix, as others have talked about this on the list. Just didn't know if that would be enough to do the trick.
Yes, summer rains are shortlived here but sometimes can come down pretty heavy. I thought I'd like to leave them up in winter too but occasionally we have a few days of drizzle. My regular PC blocks I noticed would absorb quite a bit of rainwater under those conditions, making them much heavier. I could see the wetness down into the blocks a good 4 - 5 inches. These were blocks I threw on top of the tarp over my hay to hold it in place, they were much much heavier to remove after the rain stopped. Since my roof blocks will only be about 3" thick I think they would completely saturate under those conditions.
My roof is pitched. I guess I could just remove them for the winter.
Either way, I'd hate to be the cause of having my roof crash down on my head!
