I did some with lime instead of cement about ten years ago. It took longer to get hard, as expected. Lime makes it really creamy. There is no cost savings over portland cement, might be a carbon saving but I haven't researched it.

When you say "Plaster" what are you referring to? Are you talking about 'Plaster of Paris'? The term plaster can refer to gypsum plaster (also known as plaster of Paris), lime plaster, or cement plaster.
