I don't know much about the toxicity or edibility of linseed oil and I think what they use is boiled linseed oil if that would make a difference. I have a friend who lives in a tipi in Idaho 8 months of the year and he tells me he levels off the interior with clay soil and then puts the linseed oil on that and it is very hard, smooth and durable. The earth floor people say that the linseed oil imparts a very strong smell and it takes some time for that to abate.
