Recently arrived lurker emerging here because we're on a topic I can actually contribute to :-)
I too had the issue with the second file, but had no issue with the first one. Given the first file works, I don't think it's a codec problem: it's more likely to be that the files were corrupted when they were being uploaded to the webspace ~ the "broken" error is a typical symptom of this.
If you use a MD5 hash check on the original files, and again on the downloaded files and compare the hash it'll tell you if there's a difference in them (if they're identical they'll have identical hash values) - and, if there is, the difference will be the corruption, causing the files to break in VLC

Alternatively, perhaps try uploading the broken files again or uploading to a different webspace.

Yeah, it's a codec thing. Unfortunately I can't tell you which one. All four of them work here.
Curtis' camera had proprietary software and they need to be converted some standard format. If anyone wants to do that and send me copies I'll be happy to provide web space for them. Assuming Curtis is cool with it, of course.
