I'm still in the planning stages and thought I would run them by you-all for
your expert feedback. This is a fuel tank (1000gal. 4'dia. By 12' long) that
I will be converting to a hot water tank for a solar system that will sit
outside. I want to use the PC to insulate it, about 2' all around. I first
thought of doing a traditional mounting with three supports on a concrete
footers that went below the freeze level (2' here) and then doing the PC all
around. With the concern with heat loss through the supports and how to
minimize that I have now revised it to just using PC for the whole support
and doing a stronger mix for the part that will support the weight of the
tank (apx. 4 tons) running the full length of the tank of course. Setting it
4' below ground level on a bed of gravel using treated plywood and plastic
sheeting as a vapor/water barrier. Having a couple of drainage trenches and
piping running downhill from it to keep water from pooling there.
Any thoughts on my ideals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
