I have not had an easy time getting fly ash. I have had to go to Farmington to get it from a guy who delivers it to the oil and gas wells. He sells the leftover stuff but has no idea what the ratio of fly ash to cement is. I'm done with that anyway. Last time I went it cost way too much when you figure in the gas to get there and all that. I appreciate your explanation. I am just not at all technical so am glad I'm building in a dry climate. I've heard you can buy it in TX in the big box stores. I wonder why we don't have it here. I may have breathed in some of it in my years of papercreting but had a chest xray in the fall and all is well.

Judith, Hello -your flyash is pozzolan or amorphous aluminum silicate, flyash is low reactivity hence your 40% add ratio -that is OK though since flyash is also aggregate. I use high reactivity Metakaolin clay from South Carolina - sometimes its a matter of access. The reaction we are concerned with is that of the un reacted lime, left over from the portland crystalization process. That lime holds water (the enemy of papercrete) - react that lime with pozzolan and you gain high quality alumino-silicate cement voila win/ win. As to wether I am being reactive to moisture problems, only that in a rooms by the night scenario that is a lot of showers and steam in a papercrete room. You are doing great with your flyash - dont breath it - Thank You for being the papercrete Goddess - Clyde
