Subject: [papercreters] Using Stucco sprayer-PC floors- slab floors-
Calle said of www.mortarsprayer.com:
just put no words or so few for the novice it is hard to write the
story to the pictures.
>>>>>>OH! their old site had long articles and I remember reading them-- will email them to you as I had a D/l of them saved. a big article by an expert cement guy on SB stucco use
When you mention the popcorn effect Hard to hang shelves and
pictures on popcorn! Also have other done celings with the pc
mixture?
>>>>>> I MEAN THE POPCORN TEXTURE IS ON THE DRYWALL- SO YOU HANG STUFF AS NORMAL, INTO THE DRYWALL, OR STUDS, OR ADD THOSE MOLLY BOLTS. There is/was a ceiling sprayer, I think mortarsprayer.com is working on a new one, ask them.
We had thought of doing a terra tile floor as first introduced to us
by David Easton, then more recently by Owen Grieger (wrong spelling I
think) the engineer that designs earthbag and other alternative house
plans. Perhaps pc floors would transfer heated water better, and be
easier to clean and maintain with kids, boots and country dirt?
>> Owen is an engineer? I did not know that- he does natural building interviews and consults, but I had not heard the rest of his career. thot he was a phd in something else
>> adobe tiles cant get wet, need protection, real tiles are best overall, PC can get wet, and stay soft until dried out, so sealing is needed in ALL floor materials.
Those Terra tiles you can STAMP PC, or earth floors with a tile
pattern, but WHY? I have done many experiments with PC= laying a
SLATE or ceramic tile gives the best of both- pc thermal and
cushioning for legs, and indestructible to chair legs, etc.
look at this page- Saltillo tile stamper: http://www.ferncometal.com/
He makes the manual CInva Ram press from the plans I sell.
http://www.ferncometal.com/products.htm the tile kit is $42- $321
for gang tiles.
The book you mentioned is the one our library had, but not the last
addition. Will see if I can find it, or look on line at view the
table of contents.
>>>>?? The earth bag one-- I think that is the only one, and Appropriate Building materials has only one edition too-- I emailed you the links already off list
His whole premise has been the solar pad that a house is set on. We
do not want the cost of cement as it will put the cost of the house
over the top, the county will charge us outlandish taxes.
>> Not sure who uou refer to? - you must mean Kelly Hart? he did the Earthbag DVD on his own home build.
Doing a PERIMETER, or rubble trench perimeter, and packed earth middle
with a PC layer and then slates/tiles is the cheaper way- if you
skip the tiles NOW, and add later then that could work too.
So why aren't you going to write books? Maybe after a long rest!
>> I am!!.. it says so in my signature!! try an stop me eh? no one may read them, but I am gonna write 'em.
I have more than 20 publications now, and more to do, the simple low
cost booklets and CD guides people can afford.

***The Saltillo Fake-O Tile Kit
We call them "Saltillo Fake-O" — they look a lot like Mexican-made
Saltillo tiles, but unlike real Saltillo tiles, these tiles are tough
as nails and will last a lifetime with minimal care. Real Saltillos
are earthen — sometimes fired, but usually sun-baked — and tend to be
quite fragile, not to mention highly irregular in size and thickness.
With our Saltillo Fake-O kit, you can make your own tiles that are
consistent in size and thickness, comparable in price to Saltillos,
and amazingly durable. Use them indoors or out and install them as you
would any other kind of tile. The Saltillo Fake-O Tile Kit comes with
a four-gang mold (i.e., you can make four tiles at a time) and
complete instructions for making your own 10" x 10" tiles. Use one kit
for small projects and two or even three kits for large projects. Need
larger or smaller tiles? Just let us know what size you need and we'll
make a custom mould for you.
