[papercreters] Earthbag/Papercrete foundation question?

We have read where some locations can cause mold problems with Papercrete. Even though we feel that between 10-17 inches of rain a year would not be a problem, we are asking for input on the first few feet of a wall, in regards to materials.

Has anyone heard of constucting the lower part of the walls with earthbags, then putting your forms or blocks on top of that?

Because there is not a book out on this, like the one by David Easton on Rammed Earth, nor the many on Strawbales, we have not seen a discussion on mixing methods.

Our terrian is rather rough, so any suggestions on a fixed site mixer, run off of a power takeoff on a tractor? We have been reading and reading, but think that we need some input by those who have done it, and tried different methods.

Our first step is to design a home and then present it to the county assessor, as we do not want to be taxed out of minds. Low population counties are always after tax dollars and we do not want to be treated differently, as many view "City People" as having money to burn. We do not want any surprises at the end. They start to tax you as soon as you prepare your site and lay the smallest part of your footings.

It is a journay, but nice to have the wisdom of those who have gone before us.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all.

Calle
