In Kootenai County, Idaho where I used to live, you could build a 200sq ft. building to the drip line, very specific about to the drip line. That is what I built, a gambrel barn roof building with a sleeping loft in one end and open to the ceiling in the other. If you built more than one of these they had to bo closer than five feet. I never got around to building another as I sold the place and moved permantly to Arizona. Here in La Paz County, Arizona, you are allowed to build either a 120 or 160 sq. ft building without a permit, depending on who you talk to in the office. At any rate they say that if you put a light bulb or water in the building then you must have a permit. I'm not sure if that's really a fact as they like to make up rules and regulations on the fly anyway and you get different answers from different people in the office. I think small buildings around a courtyard type setting would be a good way to go but when they see that you are actually living in one or more of these units you would probably fall under the code.

I have thought that if I were creative I could have a nice little set up of separate units creating a nice court yard that could be covered to catch rain water to be stored in a cistern....
