[papercreters] Rub R Slate (RRS)

Hi Group,
I was reading through Jack Bay's book Nuway Building (circa 1930) available from www.dircheapbuilder.com and have come to the conclusion that some of his practices may not be healthy today (mixing asbestos with AE and clay).  I was wondering if anyone has tried to duplicate his recipe for RRS and used it as a coating on PC (or anything else for that matter) without the asbestos.

Also I have no clay anyway near me.  Is it synonymous with bentonite?
