What is AE and RRS and PC. Well I know PC is personal computer. Right? :) Seriously, in case someone is new around here they might not even know what PC is. I know it saves time to type PC instead of Papercrete but it takes longer for the brain to recognize/calculate and translate the true meaning, which is one reason why I like to type out even things like California.
Without knowing what AE and RRS is, maybe this next comment is out of place. We are trained to abhor asbestos but honestly, that is some of the best material known to mankind for certain things. Asbestos siding on a house is not really considered a hazard per se. If you're re-siding a house that has asbestos siding or shingles on it, most codes will require that you remove the asbestos siding first but nobody is requiring that you replace the asbestos siding if it is still good and not chipping, and has paint still firmly attached. Asbestos shingle siding is some mighty durable stuff and I believe it also keeps a house cooler. Definately protects it from the sun better than vinyl which deteriorates at a much faster pace. When you consider the other non-green materials that go into making vinyl, asbestos starts looking rather green due to its long life durability. I know of homes today which are approaching 100 years old that still have pristine siding.
Where you don't want asbestos is interior to the house, or exposed to the airway circulation.

Hi Group,
I was reading through Jack Bay's book Nuway Building (circa 1930) available from www.dircheapbuilder.com and have come to the conclusion that some of his practices may not be healthy today (mixing asbestos with AE and clay). I was wondering if anyone has tried to duplicate his recipe for RRS and used it as a coating on PC (or anything else for that matter) without the asbestos.
Also I have no clay anyway near me. Is it synonymous with bentonite?
Thanks,
Ron
